What would be more efficent?

Hypothetically lets say you're watching a guide for a game you like. You're stuck at one point or you want to become better...

Would it be better if you saw how a moderately good player plays and learn it first hand from first person point of view. (With commentary whilst playing)

Or.

Would it be better if you see that moderately good player cast the game from a 3rd person point of view and commentate on a replay of the game he played said above. The advantage here is that you could learn whats happening from both sides since there wont be a limitation to only a 1st person PoV.

  1. I'd probably prefer the first option if there was commentary, but I can be a little weird sometimes.

  2. 1st option, easier to see what is happening in game

  3. Think the first opinion is the better one.

  5. The first one, no doubt. Also, visiting your blog...

  6. Second one. Expert opinion and both points of view are better and help you improve your game.

  7. Maybe a bit of both? but i prefer to see it first person. great blog btw!

  8. Second. When the commentator critiques his own performance, it's the best.

  9. You need to learn analysis your faults on your own. I think some things come with experience only. Will think about this thuogh, following!

  14. I like watching people stream games on Justin.tv whilst commentating & replying verbally to the chat from the viewers...

  16. 1st person would be better, but only if the commentary is adequate.

  17. So, if I'm getting this right.. For the 3rd person the person doing to walkthrough would record the video, with commentary, and then run through the commentary using a video editor, with anyother set of commentary saying where he when wrong ect?
    If this is the thing you mean then the 3rd person would definitely be better as it would incompas both sides of the walkthrough. But in practicality it would be a difficult concept. If you did the 3rd person commentary using text instead of your voice I think that would solve the problem. I know this really good example of it, but it's in the back of my head. ;_;

  18. The first option fits me better. It's always easier to say a lot of sometimes unnecessary things about gameplay after completing it.

  19. first person definitely, I like to see how others play this way

  20. The first one. Because that's what I do when I make guides

  21. Replay, Replay, from first person view? :)

  22. The first choice look the best for me but the second is interesting at least

  23. First one would be ideal imo

  24. The first option sounds alot better for learning how to get through a specific spot

  26. comment on ur vid after you've made it that way you can point out mistakes you made =D

  27. Both are good ideas, but the second one might be annoying if the player don't know how to narrate.

  28. Tough call, but I'll agree with opinon two.

  29. best would be to get a coaching by a good player and not just semi good ^^

  30. Both have their merits - the first person view, you could be just as surprised as the player himself. But in the third person, you could get a better sense of the overall strategy of your matchup.

  31. I'm unsure as to which would be the best alternative, but I prefer the first person perspective. Great blog!

  32. Yeah, I like the othe rone better, but its up to you.

  33. First person is the way to go, I think it provides a more unique overview.

  34. More than one point of view is always better.

  35. I'm thinking the first option, a guide doesn't need to hold your hand and if you're that stuck on a game try again the next day. Being told something and understanding something are two different things.

  36. Bit of both, despite its limitations

  37. I'll have to go with the first one..

  38. I think it's not something you do by principle... every case is different and answer can by different too
